If you’ve never used a walk-in clinic before, it’s natural to wonder how it actually works. Here’s a straightforward run-through of what to expect.
No booking, no referral
You don’t need to be a registered patient, and you don’t need a referral from another GP. Simply arrive during opening hours and you’ll be seen in turn, the same way you would at any GP practice, just without the appointment book.
What to bring
A form of ID and, if relevant, a list of any medications you’re currently taking is helpful, but not essential. If you’ve had recent blood tests or scans elsewhere, bringing a copy along can save time.
What happens during your visit
Dr Dana will talk through why you’ve come in, ask about your history where relevant, and carry out an examination if needed. If bloods, an ECG or an X-ray would help, these can usually be arranged on-site during the same visit.
After your visit
You’ll leave with a clear plan, whether that’s a prescription, advice, a follow-up date, or a referral for further care. If something needs a second look, you’re welcome to walk in again or call ahead to check on progress.
Worth knowing before you go
Wait times can vary depending on how busy the clinic is. If you’d like an idea of current wait times before you travel, it’s worth calling ahead.
